About the NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding for eligible people with a significant and permanent disability for any reasonable and necessary support needs related to their disability.

Once you have been assessed and receive an NDIS Plan, you will have more choice and control over your supports in order to achieve positive outcomes by purchasing necessary services or products to help you achieve your goals.

How Can I Access the NDIS?

The NDIS is managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).

The NDIA makes decisions about who can access the NDIS based on the information you provide about your disability and how it impacts on your day-to-day life. Further details are available directly from the NDIS:

If you think you meet the criteria, you can apply to the NDIS for funds. If you are assessed as eligible, the NDIS will help you develop a NDIS Plan that is based on your personal goals and support needs.

Managing Your NDIS

Once you have been approved for NDIS funding, you have the option to choose how your plan is managed. This may be by one of the following options or a combination of them.

Agency Management

The NDIS manages your funding, and your service providers submit a claim for payment directly to them. Under Agency Management, you can only use Registered NDIS providers.

Plan Management 

Plan Management gives you the flexibility to manage your own supports and not have to worry about the complexities of managing the financial side of your NDIS Plan (ie: paying invoices for services and supports obtained.)

Self Management

You are responsible for engaging providers for necessary services, paying their invoices and acquitting funding to the NDIS via the NDIS portal:
